MEET THE CHAMPION: MAD HATTER

There is perhaps no individual in all of Teleria more aptly named than the Mad Hatter. In his own words, he is “indeed rather quite mad”, and wears an “undoubtedly fetching hat”. A dark sorcerer and potion brewmaster who serves the vain and impulsive Queen of Hearts, his was the idea that sent the pair to Durham Forest in search of treasures and power. And his was the idea that set Alice the Wanderer on their trail.

MAD HATTER FROM THE ALICE’S ADVENTURE EVENT IN RAID: SHADOW LEGENDS

Read on to understand how to use him well and subject your enemies to all manner of wicked and weird concoctions!

WHY PLAY MAD HATTER IN RAID: SHADOW LEGENDS?

Mad Hatter may seem a bit crazed but he’s deadly serious, bamboozling his opponents with buff and debuff manipulation as well as Turn Meter increases for his allies. He can place valuable debuffs, such as Hex, Weaken, and True Fear, as well as passively heal his allies every 10 turns. So, he can be a real menace to your enemies and a real boon to allies.

Whether you’re looking for an exceptionally fashionable and dastardly manipulator to join your team or someone who can passively heal in those longer fights against Bosses, Mad Hatter is more than happy to offer his services in RAID: Shadow Legends.

HOW TO GET MAD HATTER IN RAID: SHADOW LEGENDS?

You can grab Mad Hatter through a dedicated Mad Hatter Fusion Event from January 8th, 2025 to January 23rd, 2025 as part of the Alice’s Adventure Event in RAID: Shadow Legends. Mad Hatter is also summonable from Ancient, Primal, and Sacred Shards. In addition, he may be summoned from the Prism Shard using Prism Crystals during select Summon Pool Events.

WHAT ARE MAD HATTER’S SKILLS?

A lot of Mad Hatter’s skills are focused on manipulating buffs and debuffs, both on his allies and his enemies. He can steal buffs and spread debuffs with his default skill, bring a powerful ally with him when attacking using his second skill, and ensure his allies are fast and fit with his other skills. Check out the full list of Mad Hatter’s skills in RAID: Shadow Legends!

  • Dastardly Distillation – Attacks 1 enemy 2 times. Each hit has a 25% chance of stealing 1 random buff. Each hit also has a 75% chance of applying a Debuff Spread effect, taking 1 random debuff from the target and placing it on all enemies under a Hex debuff.
  • Mixture Most Foul – Attacks all enemies. Has a 75% chance of placing a Hex debuff and a 25% Weaken debuff on all enemies for 2 turns. The ally with the highest C. DMG will team up and join the attack. The ally joining the attack will use their default skill. The damage dealt by the ally joining the attack will increase by 10% for each debuff on the target.
  • A Whiff of Madness – Increases the duration of all buffs on all allies by 1 turn, and decreases the duration of all debuffs on all allies by 1 turn. Also fills the Turn Meters of all allies by 20%.
  • Time For Tea! [P] – Every 10 turns taken by allies, heals all allies by 20% of their MAX HP. Every 6 turns taken by enemies, places a True Fear debuff on all enemies for 1 turn. If there are multiple Champions on the team with this skill, only one will activate.

Mad Hatter also has an Aura that increases all allies’ Accuracy in all battles by 60.

MAD HATTER RECOMMENDATIONS

Maximizing the Mad Hatter’s impact in RAID: Shadow Legends requires Gear and Masteries that enhance his Accuracy and Speed predominantly, with some survivability packed in to help keep him alive. Accuracy, in particular, will help enable Mad Hatter to land his buff and debuff manipulation on enemies. Keep tabs on your turns taken too, as Mad Hatter will heal all of your allies by 20% of their MAX HP every time 10 of your turns have passed by.

Check out our recommendations for the perfect Gear, Masteries, Blessings, and more to use Mad Hatter effectively in RAID: Shadow Legends!

MASTERIES

As a Support-type Champion, you’re going to want to take advantage of the Support Mastery Tree for Mad Hatter. He’ll benefit most from choosing Masteries that enhance his Accuracy in some way, such as Pinpoint Accuracy and Charged Focus. Master Hexer can also grant Mad Hatter the ability to place his debuffs for longer, Cycle of Magic can decrease a skill’s cooldown, and Arcane Celerity can increase Mad Hatter’s Turn Meter.

Mad Hatter will see the most use in PvE content such as Dungeons and Doom Tower, so we recommend also selecting Masteries from the Offense Tree to give him some damage capability. Build down the left-hand side, working towards the Tier 6 Mastery Warmaster to grant Mad Hatter the chance at bonus damage which scales on the target’s MAX HP. It’ll come in very handy for longer fights against the likes of the Demon Lord, Hydra, and Chimera Clan Bosses.

RECOMMENDED MASTERIES FOR MAD HATTER IN RAID: SHADOW LEGENDS

GEAR

Equipping Mad Hatter with the right Gear means focusing on two keys stats – Speed and Accuracy. You’ll want Mad Hatter to be fast in order to ensure he’s manipulating buffs and debuffs while they’re still present on Champions in battle, and you’ll want him to be accurate so he can successfully do that.

In terms of specific Sets, there’s three we would strongly recommend you build Mad Hatter in: Feral, Relentless, or Perception. Feral can be earned as a reward from Siege and is a variable set, meaning it’ll slot in perfectly with other Sets such as Relentless or Perception.

What Feral does is offer the Champion up to an additional 120 Accuracy, 15% Speed, a Block Debuffs buff at the start of each round, and a 50% chance to prevent the placement of Sheep debuffs via the Polymorph Blessing. It offers a lot, and it’s an amazing choice for someone like Mad Hatter who requires both Accuracy and Speed.

Perception is a more conventional Set in that it requires two pieces of Gear to activate the bonus, and it grants the wearer 40 points of Accuracy and an additional 5% Speed. Six pieces of Perception Gear can boost a Champion’s Accuracy by 120, and speed by 15%, same as Feral and easier to obtain.

Then there’s Relentless. While this 4-piece Set doesn’t provide any stat boosts, it does offer the wearer an 18% chance of getting an Extra Turn. It can be really helpful for cycling back to impactful skills quickly, lowering those cooldowns, and allowing Mad Hatter to manipulate those buffs once again.

BLESSINGS

We recommend two Blessings for Mad Hatter – either Brimstone or Cruelty. Brimstone is the more damage-focused Blessing outright, having a chance to place a Smite debuff when attacking an enemy target. The Smite debuff then detonates after an enemy uses an active skill, dealing damage equal to 25% of their MAX HP. At Level 6 of Awakening, Brimstone has a 100% chance of placing a Smite debuff, and it’s protected, becoming a real threat to enemy teams.

The other choice is Cruelty. This Blessing would enable Mad Hatter to decrease an enemy’s Defense each time he hits an enemy, meaning his allies can deal even more damage. At Level 6 of Awakening, a Champion with Cruelty can decrease an enemy’s Defense by 4% per hit, stacking up to 40% for enemy Champions and 20% for Bosses.

MAD HATTER TACTICS

Mad Hatter can be a valuable Champion across the many game modes of RAID: Shadow Legends, but he will perhaps find the most use in tackling some of Teleria’s biggest Bosses. With his ability to extend buff duration and decrease debuff duration on his allies, as well as a hefty passive heal, he’ll make for an outstanding second support in a team focused on taking down a single target.

DUNGEONS

Deep in the Dungeons of Teleria, Mad Hatter is a very valuable ally to have for clearing waves and taking on monstrous foes. If Mad Hatter is quick enough to go first in your teams, or second behind a Speed-increasing Support, he can open with his Mixture Most Foul skill to place Hex and Weaken whilst bringing a high-damage ally into the fight with him.

Then it’s all about buff and debuff management, whether it’s stealing buffs and spreading debuffs with his Dastardly Distillation skill, or extending buff duration and decreasing debuff duration with his A Whiff of Madness skill. For the longer fights against Bosses, his Time for Tea! passive will come in very handy with a 20% teamwide heal every 10 turns taken by allies.

DOOM TOWER

Mad Hatter’s usefulness mentioned above also extends to the Doom Tower, with many of the same tactics in play. Whether you’re taking on waves of enemies or tackling the Bosses, set up using Mixture Most Foul to land Hex and Weaken, let your allies set up their own buffs, and then increase the duration of those buffs using A Whiff of Madness.

Against some Bosses, such as Grythion or Borgoth, the ability to spread debuffs with his Dastardly Distillation skill won’t matter, but stealing buffs from them and extending their duration on your allies is just as valuable, if not more so.

FACTION WARS

Taking on Faction Wars with Mad Hatter requires building the right team around him. You’ll need to ensure you’re bringing Champions who can place valuable buffs on your allies, either to enhance their damage or survivability.

Make sure Mad Hatter has the second-highest Speed in your team – you’ll want him to go after your fastest Champion has had a chance to place all-important Increase Speed buffs. Once that’s done, Mad Hatter can extend the duration to give your team a constant edge in the fight.

Once you reach the Faction Crypt Keeper fights on Stages 7, 14, and 21, his passive is likely to come into play where he’s placing True Fear on enemies every 6 of their turns, and healing your allies after 10 of your own turns.

MAD HATTER TEAM COMBINATIONS

Team composition is everything in RAID: Shadow Legends, and here are a few suggestions to help get you started with Mad Hatter.

For Faction Wars, as mentioned above, we’d recommend running Mad Hatter alongside a second support, ideally one who can provide healing more often in case it’s needed and can revive any fallen friends – a Champion such as Rector Drath is a great pick. Another valuable Champion from the Knights Revenant is Renegade, who can reset the cooldown of her allies’ skills by 2 turns. Mad Hatter could extend buff duration, then have Renegade reduce that skill’s cooldown so he can get ready to do it again in quick succession.

Outside of the constraints of Faction Wars, Mad Hatter should be paired with a fellow Support Champion with healing and a revive in their kit, an attacking Champion with high Critical Damage, and a tankier Champion to soak up damage from opponents. For the Support role, we recommend a Champion such as Arbiter, Python, or Duchess Lilitu; someone who can provide both healing and a revive if it’s needed.

As for the damage-dealing ally with high Critical Damage, we recommend picking up someone such as Ninja or Rotos the Lost Groom. Both are capable of massive damage, and would be a valuable ally for Mad Hatter to bring into battle.

There’s also Alice the Wanderer, a fellow Champion who was released as part of the Alice’s Adventure Event in RAID: Shadow Legends, who’d love nothing more than to smite down evil with her Vorpal Sword. Finally, Visix the Unbowed can offer some much-needed protection with her skills that place Provoke on enemies and Ally Protection buffs on her allies.

MAD HATTER KEY INFO

STRENGTHS

WEAKNESSES

  • Great buff and debuff manipulation on his skills, both for his allies and his enemies.
  • Mad Hatter’s passive skill includes a 20% heal for all allies so he doesn’t need to expend a turn to heal.
  • Extending buffs on his allies means they can stay healthier, deal more damage, and focus on dealing damage rather than placing buffs.
  • There are other buff and debuff manipulators in Raid that do a similar thing, arguably more effectively.
  • A passive heal every 10 turns taken by allies may not be enough for some modes so he perhaps needs to be paired with a second healer.
  • Needs to be paired with Champions that can place the right buffs – no point being able to extend buff duration if there’s nothing to extend!
