Royal Guard, RAID: Shadow Legends champion

Check out our guide on how to use the Epic High Elves Champion Royal Guard in RAID: Shadow Legends, and leave no enemy standing!

WHY PLAY ROYAL GUARD IN RAID: SHADOW LEGENDS?

Renowned for their exceptional skill with a polearm, and their unflinching bravery in the face of terrifying enemies, Royal Guard is capable of taking on some of the biggest and toughest Bosses in RAID: Shadow Legends.

Royal Guard’s skillset is focused on dealing massive damage and manipulating the Turn Meter of a single enemy at a time. He can carve open defenses, slow foes down, and hit really hard against those with high MAX HP in RAID: Shadow Legends.

HOW TO GET ROYAL GUARD IN RAID: SHADOW LEGENDS?

Royal Guard can be acquired by summoning him from Ancient, Primal, or Sacred Shards at the Portal, as well as selected Summon Pool Events.

WHAT ARE ROYAL GUARD’S SKILLS?

Ensuring Aravian royalty is suitably protected means being prepared to deal with any and all threats. As such, Royal Guard’s skills in RAID: Shadow Legends combine some of the most valuable debuffs in Decrease Defense and Decrease Speed, and focus on dealing major damage to high-HP targets.

  • Razor Blade – Attacks 1 enemy. Has a 50% chance of placing a 60% Decrease Defense debuff for 2 turns.
  • Takedown – Attacks all enemies. Damage increases according to enemy MAX HP.
  • Hamstring – Attacks 4 times at random. Each hit has a 60% chance of placing a 30% Decrease Speed debuff for 2 turns. Each hit also has a 60% chance of decreasing the target’s Turn Meter by 25%.

Royal Guard also has an Aura that increases the Attack of all allies in Dungeon battles by 35%.

ROYAL GUARD RECOMMENDATIONS

With the potential for such high damage against targets with high MAX HP, we recommend using Royal Guard as your resident boss killer. He can shine against the Hydra and Demon Lord Clan Bosses, as well as the Doom Tower, and most of the Dungeon Bosses. Check out our more in-depth recommendations for the perfect Gear, Masteries, Blessings, and more to get the most out of Royal Guard in RAID: Shadow Legends!

MASTERIES

The best Masteries for a boss-killing warrior like Royal Guard will be focused on the Offense Mastery Tree, culminating in either the Warmaster or Helmsmasher Tier 6 Mastery. Along the way, pick up Keen Strike and Deadly Precision for the extra Critical Rate and Critical Damage, as well as Methodical at Tier 5 to ensure that Royal Guard is doing more damage with his default skill. With Royal Guard’s Razor Blade and Hamstring skills also placing debuffs, pair these Offense Masteries with Support Masteries that improve Accuracy, such as Pinpoint Accuracy, Charged Focus, and Swarm Smiter.

Characteristics of the Champion Royal Guard in RAID

GEAR

With Royal Guard placing valuable debuffs and having an attack skill that scales off an enemy’s MAX HP, you’ll want to build him with a focus on getting at least 100% Critical Rate, 200 Accuracy, and as much Critical Damage as you possibly can. In terms of specific Artifact Sets, focus on those that enhance damage, like Cruel, Savage, and Slayer, or Sets that boost Accuracy and Speed, like Perception. When it comes to Accessories, prioritize those that offer HP and HP% substats to ensure Royal Guard has additional survivability.

BLESSINGS

There are some great Blessings available to Epic Champions in RAID: Shadow Legends, including Cruelty and Crushing Rend. Cruelty enables Royal Guard to lower the Defenses of a single target when hitting them, which works especially well with his third skill, which hits four times. On the other hand, Crushing Rend is great for Royal Guard if he has reached Level 5 or 6 of Awakening. Crushing Rend allows a Champion to ignore a percentage of an enemy’s Defense, depending on the enemy’s level, meaning Royal Guard can hit even harder with his Takedown skill.

ROYAL GUARD TACTICS

Royal Guard has remained relevant in RAID: Shadow Legends since the game’s launch, and he still remains a must-have today for teams looking to conquer the Dungeons, Doom Tower, and Hydra Clan Boss. There he can hit all Heads at the same time and deal damage based on their MAX HP. There isn’t really a use case for Royal Guard in the Arena, as his skills are much more suited to taking on high-HP targets, and enemy Champions in the Arena will never reach the levels of HP needed to make Takedown useful there. With a third skill that hits four times, places Decrease Speed debuffs, and reduces Turn Meter, Royal Guard is particularly effective against the Fire Knight, though not on Hard Mode.

DUNGEONS

In RAID: Shadow Legends, there are few better boss-killing Champions than Royal Guard. He excels at fighting Bosses such as the Dragon, Ice Golem, Spider, and Fire Knight. Being able to hit four times with Hamstring while manipulating Turn Meter makes him a menace for Bosses to deal with.

DOOM TOWER

Despite not being an ideal Champion for the wave-based Normal Rooms between Bosses, Royal Guard comes into his own when facing off against the Doom Tower’s more monstrous residents. He’s an excellent choice for Astranyx the Dark Fae and Sorath the Frost Spider, both in terms of minions, but Astranyx is susceptible to Turn Meter manipulation and Sorath has incredibly high HP. He will struggle against Bommal the Dreadhorn as he’s at an Affinity disadvantage, and his effectiveness against Borgoth the Scarab King requires Champions who can destroy his MAX HP before Royal Guard can make the most of his Takedown skill.

FACTION WARS

Royal Guard may not be the best for clearing waves of enemies at a time, but he can certainly excel when it comes to taking on the Faction Crypt Keepers at Stages 7, 14, and 21. Royal Guard’s damage alone would be enough for him to be in any team, but coupled with his ability to place Decrease Defense and Decrease Speed debuffs, he becomes a necessity for slaying those High Elf Faction Crypt Keepers.

ROYAL GUARD TEAM COMBINATIONS

While Royal Guard can deal some serious damage by himself, being able to place a Decrease Defense debuff and hit all enemies proportional to their MAX HP, there are synergies within RAID: Shadow Legends that enable Royal Guard to become even more effective. Warmaiden can place a 60% Decrease Defense debuff on an entire enemy team, meaning Royal Guard can hit hard without needing to set it up himself. Zargala is another Champion capable of placing a teamwide Decrease Defense debuff, paving the way for Royal Guard to deal serious damage.

Another Champion who excels at taking down Bosses in RAID: Shadow Legends is Geomancer. With his Stoneheart passive skill, Geomancer can reflect damage back to an attacking Boss, racking up big damage numbers. Coupled with Royal Guard, the two of them can wreak havoc, ensuring you get the best rewards for taking on the Demon Lord Clan Boss every day, and the Hydra Clan Boss every week.
